Privacy Policy
Effective October 29, 2026
This policy explains what information Handiers Inc., a Delaware corporation based in California (“Handiers”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use coffeechat.me, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to help people arrange coffee chats.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
| Sign-in details | If you use Google: your Google account ID, name and email address. If you use your phone: your phone number. We never receive your Google password. |
| Profile | Username, display name, one-liner, About text, topics, home city, whether you are open to virtual or offline chats, and a profile photo if you add one (we resize it in your browser to a small square before upload). |
| Coffee chat requests | Your message, virtual or offline choice, city, the cafés you suggest, and whether coffee is on you. |
| Replies | The café you choose, the times you offer, your note, and the time the other person confirms. |
| Likes | Which pages you like. |
| Notification settings | Whether you want email or SMS notifications, the email address you confirm for them, and when you turned them on (your consent). |
| Messages to us | Anything you send us by email, such as support requests or reports. |
Information collected automatically
| Page views | We count visits to each profile page. We store the total only, not who visited. |
| Technical data | IP address, browser type, requested pages and error details, kept in our hosting provider’s server logs. |
| Usage analytics | Pages viewed and actions such as signing up, sending a request or copying your link, with device and approximate location (from IP), via Google Analytics. We don’t send your name, email, phone number or messages to Google Analytics. |
| Map searches | The cities you search and the map areas you look at, which we send to our map provider to find cafés. We do not access your device’s GPS location. |
2. How we use your information
- To create your account, sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To show your public page and deliver requests and replies between you and other users.
- To find cafés near the places you search.
- To show you notifications and simple statistics, such as requests received and likes.
- If you turn them on, to email you about new requests, replies and confirmed chats. You can turn them off any time in My home → Account.
- If you sign in with your phone number and agree to SMS notifications, to text you about new requests, replies and confirmed chats. Message frequency varies and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help, or turn them off in My home → Account.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, blocking offensive usernames, and investigating reports.
- To fix bugs and improve the service.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
3. SMS notifications
If you turn on SMS notifications, we use your mobile number to send coffee chat alerts. Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in consent are never shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help at any time.
4. What other people can see
| Anyone with your link | Your display name, profile photo, one-liner, About, topics, home city, chat preferences, username and like count. |
| The person you chat with | Your name, one-liner and avatar, plus the messages, cafés, times and notes in requests and replies between the two of you. |
| Nobody else | Your email address, phone number, the list of people who liked your page, and your requests and replies. These are not shown to other users. |
Anything you share with another user in a request or reply can be kept or shared by that person. Please do not include information you would not want them to have.
5. Service providers we use
We share information only with providers that help us run the service, and only what they need:
| Google Firebase Authentication | Google and phone sign-in, including sending SMS codes. Google reCAPTCHA checks for automated abuse during phone sign-in. |
| Twilio | Sends SMS notifications to your phone number if you agree to receive them. |
| Amazon Web Services (US) | Hosting (AWS Amplify), database (Amazon DynamoDB), profile photo storage and delivery (Amazon S3 and CloudFront), notification email (Amazon SES), configuration and secrets, server logs, and café search (Amazon Location Service). |
| Google Analytics | Measures how the service is used. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and the data is not used for advertising. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). |
| OpenFreeMap | Map tiles. Your browser loads them directly, so OpenFreeMap receives your IP address and the map area you view. |
Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use advertising trackers, and our analytics are configured so that they are not used for advertising.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect someone’s safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy will continue to apply).
6. Cookies and similar technologies
| cc_session cookie | Keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Strictly necessary. |
| Sign-in storage | Firebase stores sign-in state in your browser while you log in. |
| Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) | Set by Google Analytics to count visits and sessions. Kept up to 2 years. |
| Draft storage | If you start a request before logging in, your draft is kept in your browser tab until you finish signing in, then deleted. |
7. How long we keep information
We keep your account information and requests while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or de-identify your profile, photo, likes and username within 30 days. Requests and replies already delivered to another user may remain visible to that user without your profile details.
Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. We may keep some information longer if the law requires it or to resolve disputes and enforce our Terms.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile at any time from your home page.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing support@coffeechat.me.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights:
- California residents have the right to know, access, correct and delete personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA.
- EEA, UK and Swiss residents may also object to or restrict processing and request data portability. Our legal bases are performing our contract with you (running the service), our legitimate interests (safety and improvement), and legal obligations. You can complain to your local data protection authority.

We will verify your request using your sign-in method and respond within the time required by law.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), store secrets in managed key storage, limit access to production data, and rely on established providers for sign-in and hosting. No system is completely secure, so please use a secure Google account and keep your phone protected.
10. International transfers
We host the service in the United States. If you use it from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data protection laws.
